taxes #@!%

I have just finished our 2008 Indiana State taxes. I used Turbo Tax for the federal which cost me 29.99 to file if I did it before the 17th of March, then the price was going up. Decided to do the state myself and e- file on their web site as husband said that it was easier, just a matter of transferring some figures from the federal, it sounded easy but the first figures I put in we were getting back 770.00 but I knew that was wrong from a rough draft that A. had put on paper so I did it a again, then we owed 116.00, checked figures again and had left out a deduction, so now we are getting big 104.00 back (maybe) if I didn't mess up again.
While I was doing these taxes it made me realize that is just something else that man has complicated from the simplicity of God's way of doing things like a percentage of every ones earnings(like God's tithes). That is another thing that we can look forward to that will be corrected.

Weeds

What is a weed? Is it an unwanted plant? My husband thinks that if you can't eat it , it's a weed. When we were down to the property in Ky. over 4th of July, I saw this plant with a beautiful flower that I realized was milkweed. I know that we probably have it in Indiana. Of course I had to dig one of them up , after several tries I finally got one with a root. I think that it is going to live but if not I know where to find another one. My daughter-in-law and I also dug up another one called a butterfly weed (which you can order from plant catalogs). It has an orange flower and the butterflies do like it.
If I keep adding stuff to my back yard along with the garden, I think I will soon just have a path, but I like plants much better that grass.

Work

I put in my second day at work for the week, thru the summer they let me work less as they have students that want the extra hours. I usually work in the pharmacy, but have been working out in the store in the cosmetic department. For the first four hours I had stock to put up but then after that it was create my self something to do and point or take customers in the right direction as the cos. dept. is at the front of the store. I had intended to work in the garden when I got home but was just too tired. We are growing sweet potatoes and we always put newspapers around them to mulch for moisture and too keep down the weeds. I hope to get that done tomorrow if it doesn't rain in the morning.

vacation

I took a week of vacation this week and i am not getting my back bedroom painted as I had planned. we went to Ky. over the weekend to attend Sabbath services in London Ky, as our friends Ray and Norma Cowans had their 50th wedding anniversary reception after services. there were people I knew so it was fun catching up. We spent the weekend with my brother and his wife, also my sister and her husband came down for one night and it was fun to eat, drink and talk to them, we always have fun as we understand each others sense of humor. They took us to a peddlers mall on Sunday and I found an interesting butter dish and good deal on honey, then we hit the new goodwill that had just opened and I found an almost new quick chopper with a lot of attachments. On Monday when we left my brothers to go home, we had to first make a trip to Sunshine Valley (a.k.a. Nolts) bulk food store to buy some wheat and a few other grains, so we didnt get home until around 4;p.m and that day was shot and the next day I felt bad as I have been fighting a cold (it is better). Today I started cleaning out the bedroom as I tend to drop things there until I can figure out what to do with them, then we went out to eat chinese food and I went to Home Depot to get my paint. (the color will be a surprise). I have to repaint as the oldest son put up a ceiling fan, then when he turned it on discovered that the new stain on it was not quite dry so there are little brown specks all around the top of the walls. the curtains have too go also.
A week is not very long when you are on vacation, but hopefully I will only be working three days a week. they know that is all I want to work but some how it ends up more.

We arrived home from Alaska F.O.T. on Friday morning after flying all night on Thursday . the flight home was interesting. The person that sat down beside me was an older man that wanted to share with me his world war II stories, but the lady in front informed him that people were trying to sleep, but he couldn't hear too well so he asked me to repeat it and when I did his reply was , "Well if they wanted to sleep then they should have stayed home in bed." He then tried to lower his voice and being in his late 70's he soon drifted off to sleep. The next part from Denver to Indianapolis four men got on the plane who I think were Chinese (not sure) but one of them talked in his native language the whole two hours. (I am not exaggerating). He was sitting right behind me. The plane ride can be very interesting so next time I think that we will travel with another person we know and take up all three seats or buy the extra seat. Just kidding as then I wouldn't have these stories to tell.

Computers

I have decided that I have this love-hate for computers.(my name for it is 666) When it crashed back in July I gave some thought to just not having a computer, maybe get rid of cable tv too and go back to the simple life (but not the microwave). then I realized that I would miss the church updates, e-mail, banking online, etc so I fixed it with help from Rob. Then last week sdsinger sent me a receipe that I wanted to print , the first time it didn't print correctly as the ink cartridge was almost out of ink, so I changed it with one that I had refilled but it wouldn't work . when I figured out how to look at the printer status in the compute it said off line, I turned off the printer and then turned it back on, still nothing. I unplugged the printer , unhooked it from the computer, put this back, still nothing. So I bought a new print cartridge, still offline. I could have gotten my computer help to come but I decided to read the manual, I unplugged, unhooked and took out cartridges and tried to run the HP cd but Microsoft Windows would not let me, so I put every thing back and hit print and it worked, it also began to print out all those times before when I hit print (14) but I was able to go in the computer and find the printer and stop it after 7 pages
I also learned last week that when I make coffee in the morning I should put on my glasses. I have been sprinkling cinnamon on the coffee grounds before I brew it and the cayenne pepper and the cinnamon containers look just alike. When I took my first sip it stayed hot all the way down. It is an interesting flavor. Does Starbucks have that on their menu?
I went by the Clermont Deluxe today and it is sad to see it being dismantled. They have always done some changes to get ready for the I.R.P. drags as people camp there but this was different. Everything changes or ends.

It is almost sunset again, it rolls around quick each week. It is kind of sad that the world doesn't understand that you do not have to work 24-7 even though our society has become that and tries to make you feel guilty for not doing so.
I work in a 24 hr pharmacy and we can get really busy between 10 and 11 pm on week nights and sometimes I want to say, " Don't you people have a home and a job to get ready for tomorrow?" But I don't because the customer is always right.
I worked today from 7;30 am to 4;00 pm so I had time after I got home to finish an apron for a friend. I have made several and this is the first one that I have put lace on. It helped that Allen fixed dinner. He had a dish towel tucked around him so I asked if he would like an apron also. He said yes, but make it manly and bigger, so I have brown checked material that should work. This is after I put the backing on a quilt top that my mother had made(hand sewn).
I am going to go read on the book for book club, "Unspoken" by Francine Rivers, It is about Bathsheba.

How do you say good by to some one that you know that you may not see alive again?
Allen's brother Dave has a serious lung problem , like emphysema that has reached the critical stage. He has almost died several time but medical science has always pulled him back with the medicine and types of thereapy. Since January he has been under the care of hospice as he did not want any extra measures but was still taking several meds, (he said 15). Over the week end he fell and hurt his arm and nose, so he said "enough, I don't want to continue this" and he made the decision to stop taking every thing.
His Son Kenny called us this morning and told us so we decided to go visit as we were free today.
He is still fairly alert but told us he gets confused and does not want to go on like that. We told him that We would feel the same way.
His granddaughter Callista was with him when we got there as his wife needed to do errands.
Hospice will be there tomorrow to provide the comfort meds as they call it , it is strong pain medication to dull the realization of not being able to breathe.
We stayed about 2 hrs and when we left I hugged him and told him we would be checking on him, Allen held his and hand and told him he would be talking to him.
He is 75 yrs old and a decent person and has lived a pretty good life compared to a lot of people. He is a peaceful person who worked for the post office delivering mail ,probably 35 yrs. Him and his wife raised 3 nice children who work and are productive members of society.
Sometimes we didn,t see them for several weeks and in many ways we are not that close but I don,t like people leaving from the circle of family and I am sad when any one dies, even thought my beliefs are a comfort to me.

Allen and I went to the Clermont Deluxe Drive-In Sat . nite. My niece Lisa was going to be gone so Allen was going to help at the box office if they were super busy.
I decided to watch the Simpsons, not that I am a big fan but there is worse stuff.
It was a little mature, but no worse that a lot of stuff on regular tv, sexual innuendos and at least one curse word and as usual they made Homer out to be a bumbling idiot but they let him save the town and they did make fun of the E.P.A.
we also watched the second movie, the Bruce Willis Die Hard , It was interesting and it did keep me awake.
It was very pleasant sitting there in our lawn chairs with the moon shining thru the clouds.
Today we went down to church building and removed 3 school desks . One of our members had contributed them some time ago but they were never used and they wanted to get rid of them and we were asked if we could do it being as we have the truck. so we will be taking them to goodwill if no one wants them. when we arrived Bonnie was there and had just finished cleaning up the new refrigerator that the church bought, They had been using the old coppertone one that Allen and I had bought when we first got married and it wasn,t working so well . It was only 40 years old. They asked if we wanted it back and Allen being sensible said no, but I would have taken it back if I had some place to put it.
